Odd Enough

Driving with an IV

by Donald on Feb.01, 2010, under Odd Enough

A police officer in Wuxi province of China pulled over an over speeding car. To his surprise and his twenty years of being a police officer he never encountered such odd situation.

An IV hanging from the rear view mirror and the tube coiling around his arm and down to his right hand shocked the police officer. The driver said he has done it before without prior incident of over speeding. He said he’s just in a hurry.

When the confusion settled, the officer gave the man a ticket for speeding amounting to 200 yuan, or approximately $28. The officer should have offered the man an auto insurance quotes so he can get himself insurance for his car. No need for him it seems he’s all prepared for his life…

Inventors Killed by their own Inventions

by Donald on Jan.22, 2010, under Odd Enough

This is a list of inventors who have been killed by inventions they designed or were involved in.

* William Bullock, born 1813, died 1867, Bullock had his foot crushed while trying to repair a rotary printing press that he had invented. The resulting infection would later prove fatal.

* Otto Lilienthal died August 10, 1896 from injuries sustained two days earlier in a crash of one of his hang gliders.

* Thomas Midgley, Jr. accidentally strangled himself with the cord of a pulley-operated mechanical bed of his own design in 1944.

* Alexander Bogdanov, a physician and scientist, conducted an experiment for a “rejuvenation” technique wherein he deliberately gave himself a transfusion of blood from a student who suffered from malaria and tuberculosis. He died of the subsequent infections.

* Franz Reichelt. “The Flying Tailor” jumped off the Eiffel Tower while trying out his combined overcoat/parachute invention. The parachute failed to open and he died from the fall.

I wonder who invented rugs.

Farewell Edwina

by Donald on Jan.22, 2010, under Odd Enough

edwina duckDiscovered by Ian Knight and Christine Christopher in a lake near their residence in the market town of Ringwood in Hampshire, England. Edwina, as she was later called, had been attacked by her family and abandoned by her own mother. After days of rehabilitating her they failed to send her back to the wild, so they adopted the duck as pet.

Edwina lived with them for 22 years. It even made them celebrity after they named Edwina as oldest living duck in UK.  British Trust for Ornithology rendered Edwina the oldest recorded mallard in the United Kingdom. The Trust said that the oldest recorded age for a creature of that type in the wild in the country was 20 years and 5 months.

Twenty two years of being together is a very long time. The creature died at age 22. Much better than dying from a malignant Mesothelioma. A cancer mostly caused by asbestos.

Mole Readers

by Donald on Jan.13, 2010, under Odd Enough

Excuse the tarrot card and astrology readers. Make way for the “Mole Readers”. Mostly people rely on the latter to reveal their good and bad luck.

moles

Luckily in China based on where your mole is located there is an equivalent to a good fortune or bad fortune. Like a mole in your forehead meant all sort of problems in the family life while men with hairy moles represents good luck. Locate your moles now and don’t mistaken your acne as a mole for it is definitely a bad luck for your face. Don’t have to worry acne medicine is available widely. Before you visit a mole reader specially when you have it in the face make sure it’s the mole visible to the mole reader. :)

People in Cages

by Donald on Dec.28, 2009, under Odd Enough

It’s Holiday season and many of us are not fortunate enough to celebrate and get merry. I am talking about our less fortunate kababayans finding it hard to make ends meet. They will be starting and ending the year with hunger and lacked of many things.

In Hongkon some even have to live literally in cages. Though they are lucky to have shelter but it is still a burden for most of the residents.

Man-In-Hong-Kong-Cage-3

See the photo? It really looked like a cage of a bird or a monkey. They don’t even have the time to get a life insurance rate to quote their benefits it ever they have the chance to get one.

They even showcased this real life cage in the art gallery to get the attention of those in the government and soft hearted rich people.

Bike-Driven RV

by Donald on Dec.28, 2009, under Odd Enough

When we hear RV we only see this on the western parts of the globe. People spend hundreds of dollar to be able to own and experience a Roving Van or RV on its popular term. They use this van mostly for camping and some even make it their mobile homes.

Not in Beijing, China. Inspired by RV in America and a cargo carrying tricycle in China they call it camper bike. Designed with a small sleeping area, living area and enough storage for one person. If I have that here I would love to buy some promotional items from usimprints.com and add stuffs inside this Bike-Driven RV.

Cardboard Windshield

by Donald on Dec.14, 2009, under Odd Enough

He was so busy with his deliveries that he hasn’t found a time to fix his broken windshield. He’s been driving with a cardboard windshield for 400 hundred miles and popping his head outside so he can see the road. While on a not so busy traffic he rests himself and double checks the road through the small holes of the cardboard. Clever eh? Not until traffic guys spotted him and well, not so amazed by his clever act. If he continues driving that way accident won’t be far and disability appeal from the accident might be impossible. All because of his cardboard windshield.

I remember “Ace Ventura, Pet Detective” movie by Jim Carey. Driving with his head popping out with his dog on the other side. :)
