Edwina, as she was later called, had been attacked by her family and abandoned by her own mother. After days of rehabilitating her they failed to send her back to the wild, so they adopted the duck as pet.

Edwina lived with them for 22 years. It even made them celebrity after they named Edwina as oldest living duck in UK. British Trust for Ornithology rendered Edwina the oldest recorded mallard in the United Kingdom. The Trust said that the oldest recorded age for a creature of that type in the wild in the country was 20 years and 5 months.

Twenty two years of being together is a very long time. The creature died at age 22. Much better than dying from a malignant Mesothelioma. A cancer mostly caused by asbestos.

Asbestos was made popular in the 2oth century because of it features. An edge over all other materials in constructing buildings. Asbestos was first of all a fire-resistant mineral. Asbestos was good as an insulating agent as well as conduction of electricity. The most valid reason that made asbestos so popular was it being too cheap.

Since it was traced as the real cause of deadly cancer called Mesothelioma it was taking million of lives. Legal steps have been taken to sue asbestos. Victims are relying and assisted by Mesothelioma lawyers. Several Legislation Acts have also been passed related to this matter of concern such as “Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution Act of 2005″. These acts help to settle down the matter and help the victims to get higher amounts in terms of compensation.

This afternoon the little fellow got visitors. My mother and sister came here to see the little guy. It’s the first time my sister will see Miguel Emmanuel. She said, I and my elder brother make beautiful and handsome babies. In fairness, it’s true. Maybe she’s just envious of us having offspring. I don’t know what her plans in the future, get married maybe? She’s been telling us she’ll get married soon but that hasn’t happened until now. I heard her saying this afternoon that all baby clothes of Eman be kept for her. For her to use with her own baby? In the near future. Well, we’re excited when that time comes.

I overheard my mom talking to the little fellow that it’s too late for Eman ( that’s what we call him) to see his grandfather (lolo). He passed away last February 21 from nasopharyngeal carcinoma. My father did all he can to survive until Eman comes out but unfortunately he didn’t make it. Well, he’s still living in our thoughts and hearts. We always remember him and will tell Eman about how kind and loving his lolo to his grandchildren. Ella is lucky to experience her lolo’s kindness. Cancer took him from us. Soon there will be cure to all cancer diseases. If my father is still alive he could have spend more time with his “apos” (grandchildren).

I read over the internet about Mesothelioma cancer. A form of cancer always caused by previous exposure to asbestos. There are stories there similar to us. Families lossing their loved ones because of the disease. There will really come a time when there will be no more sickness and diseases. Where a lolo and his apo can enjoy their moment of bonding together.
